Mexico City, August 26 – The Head of Government, Clara Brugada Molina, announced that 600 community emotional well-being modules will be launched in Mexico City in the coming days. These modules are designed to function as accessible consultation centers, offering dignified care for mental health, emotional well-being, and addiction issues to the population.
600 Community Modules Ready for Launch
During a press conference primarily focused on proposals to regulate cell phone use, Brugada Molina highlighted that the physical spaces for these modules are already prepared. The local Ministry of Health is currently finalizing organizational details before their official opening.
“The issue of health and emotional well-being, and addressing addictions, is as important as physical health care. So, we will formally launch this soon,” stated Brugada Molina, emphasizing the public’s demand for accessible community locations that do not require long-distance travel.
Current Mental Health and Prevention Strategies
Nadine Gasman Zylbermann, head of the Mexico City Public Health Secretariat (Sedesa), detailed the existing actions being implemented in this area:
- Vida Plena Corazón Contento Program: This program covers over 1,100 secondary and upper-secondary schools, reaching more than one million people.
- Colibrí Centers: A network of 22 centers, some located in Utopías, specifically targeting individuals with substance abuse problems, including alcohol and methamphetamine.
- Specialized Protocol: Development of a preventive school strategy in collaboration with IAPA and the Condesa Clinics for specific attention to methamphetamine users.
The new community modules aim to complement these existing initiatives, providing a broader and more localized network of support for mental health and addiction challenges across Mexico City.
Addressing Mental Health as a Priority
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing mental health alongside physical health, recognizing the growing need for accessible and localized support services. The strategic placement of 600 modules across the city aims to ensure that residents can easily access professional help without facing logistical barriers.
This move is expected to significantly enhance the city’s capacity to address mental health issues and substance abuse, contributing to the overall well-being of its population. The focus on community-level care aligns with a broader public health strategy to integrate mental health services into daily life, making them a standard part of accessible healthcare.
The announcement has been met with anticipation, as mental health services are increasingly recognized as crucial for a healthy and productive society. The Head of Government’s emphasis on immediate accessibility and a dignified approach to care reflects a progressive stance on public health policy.
Further details regarding the official opening dates and specific services offered at each module are expected to be released by the local Ministry of Health in the coming days.
